COLCHESTER- George Doru Moarcas, 71, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Hartford Hospital with his family by his side. He was born in Brasov, Romania on October 22, 1947 to the late Gheorghe and Elena Moarcas. George had a strong will and an incredible ability for survival; knowing if caught he would be shot, he escaped communist Romania on foot traveling through Yugoslavia and Austria until he reached freedom in Germany. While in Germany, George met his wife, Georgeta; and after three years they moved to the United States and raised their family; he worked at St. Clements Castle in hospitality until his retirement. George earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from Romania and loved to educate himself and others through his knowledge and big heart. He enjoyed traveling around the world, hunting, fishing, and photography. George was caring, kind, social, and talking to him was an unforgettable experience. George is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Georgeta Moarcas of Colchester; his son Robert Moarcas of Colchester; his daughter Helen Young and her husband Jeffrey of East Hampton; and his brother Dan Moarcas and his wife Rodica of Germany. Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 5-7:30pm at Belmont Funeral Home LLC, at 144 So. Main St. Colchester. Services will be held on Saturday, June 8th, 2019 at 10:30am at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, at 433 Fairfield Ave. Hartford.
